The Tea Post 4 Do I Want to be a Vtuber?

Briefly, what is a VTuber?

Basically a virtual YouTuber. Instead of showing your face, you use an animated avatar to represent you while streaming. Mostly this is popular on Twitch and YouTube.

My Reasoning . . .

As with any aspiring author, more and more it has become the case that we have to market and engage with community. Twitter, Instagram, and other social networking bases are not really opt-out-able if you are taking marketing seriously. (Though you obviously don’t have to do all of them.)

I am a shy person, which is why writing has always been the most attractive of the arts for me—other than art itself.

Looking at marketing that fits me, I am considering VTubing. My husband suggested I could use one of my book’s character’s as my avatar—to better advertise and engage with my audience.

Why VTubing Intrigues me?

I really like the idea of getting to talk directly to an audience but I would like to do it in a creative way. I don’t have much interest in doing how to / my experience publishing youtube videos as a theme. There are so many talented people doing this already and I’m not sure I’d have anything new to say.

It would also give me an opportunity to incorporate art into my writing. A lot of the art behind a 2-D VTuber avatar reminds me of paper dolls and accessories. (As seen below—each layer needs to be separate to attach to software that can move each piece individually.) It seems like a really fun project to put together.

Other reasons include:

  • Exploring pro-create more (art software)

  • Bringing a character I wrote to life in a different way

  • Meeting more people

VTube Studio

Researching the free and available software, my husband showed me VTubeStudio on Steam. These avatars are 2-D models. There are 3-D options but that wasn’t as exciting for me personally.

I am going to test it out further, just to make sure I even enjoy streaming as a 2-D character before investing money/time into making a personalized avatar.

Anyways, my husband left me alone too long . . .

The Depravity that followed

Happy Thursday Everyone!
